About Steve Kaye

Mission: Create Success.

I am a results specialist. My highest priority is to help you become more successful.

A diverse collection of skills and achievements make me uniquely effective. These include:

Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University

As you might expect, I learn fast. I understand technology. I think in terms of practical systems that are easy to apply.

I work especially well with people in health care and high tech organizations.

Business Owner, One Great Meeting (1992 - present)

I started my current business in November 1992 with the goal of helping leaders obtain realistic results that last.

I help leaders get results in two ways: 1) Meeting Facilitation, and 2) Leadership Workshops.

My meeting facilitation gets results that others will support. See: Success Stories.

My workshops have informed and inspired leaders nationwide. See: List of Clients

Note: I am a content speaker, rather than an entertainer or other type of speaker. See the Client's Guide for descriptions of the four types of speaker.

Employment Experience, Dupont, Chevron (Engineer 1972 - 1992)

Projects included: Process engineering and new product R&D at a nylon plant, shear degradation of water soluble polymers, catalytic combustion of fire flood flue gas, miscibility of liquid CO2 and oil, computer modeling of horizontal wells, and software project coordination.

I also served on a special two year assignment as the administrative assistant for a vice-president, helping prepare budgets and organize major meetings (e.g., a week long project review featuring 80 presenters from worldwide locations).

During my last six months as an employee, I ran an outplacement program, where I found jobs for 30% of the surplace employees at my location.

Thus, I am familiar with manufacturing, research, project management, and administration.

Business Experience (Retail 1983-85, 2007-08)
I operated a part-time, home-based retail business selling software and peripherals for Apple II computers. During 1985 my gross sales were $250,000, most of which occurred at monthly Apple User Meetings.

Then, during 2007-08 I worked part time at an Apple Store as an advisor on FileMaker and as a sales person. Thus, I understand the dynamics of retail sales.

Employment Experience (Summer Jobs 1962 - 1967)
While a student, I worked as a laborer in a steel mill and a lab technician. Thus, I also understand the factory side of business.

Author

I have written three books and a tips booklet on Effective Meetings, a book on Leadership, and a novel. See: Books.

I have published over 1,100 articles (See: Past Newsletters, Sample Articles) plus blogs (See: Leadership Solutions).

I have written over 1,700 poems, some of which appear in five collections. See: Books.

Since January 1999, I have filled 55 journals. In July 2010 I started journal #56.

Professional Speaker (1992 - present)

I was the 1996-97 president of the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Speakers Association (GLAC). I won the GLAC Connie Award in 1995, which is its annual speech contest for professional speakers. And in 2002, GLAC recognized me as its Member of the Year.

I chaired the GLAC Fast Track Program for two years. This 8-part program shows new speakers how to start a professional speaking business.

Facilitator since 1982

I began as a volunteer for a local civic organization, then gained experience by organizing major meetings while an employee.

I earned the Certified Professional Facilitator designation from the International Association of Facilitators in 2003. This designation is earned by passing a rigorous skill-based assessment. At the end of the test day, I made a remark about needing to learn more, and the assessor replied, "Do you realize how good you are?"

Photographer since 1965

I specialize in nature photography, trying to capture unexpected views that show the beauty of life around us.

This has helped me develop the art of observing. I notice details. I find exceptions. I see things that others miss. And this makes me a better meeting facilitator.

Sustainable Business.

I have practiced a frugal, eco-friendly lifestyle in my business and my home for decades. It's fiscally smart, personally healthy, and socially ethical. I am a platinum member of the Green Business Bureau. Find easy, practical things that you can do at: Business Tips

Social Entrepreneur

I am active in two organizations that work to improve life for everyone.

Humanity Unites Brilliance. I am building a team to work on projects that help people lift themselves out of poverty. Call me if you're interested.

Awakening the Dreamer. I am a trained facilitator in the Awakening the Dreamer Symposiums.

So, what's the point?

When you work with me, you get more than a facilitator. Or a speaker. Or a trainer.

You get all of the above.

And in turn, you get results that help you become more successful.
