Incredible Customer Service

Montezuma Quail, Male

Can Incredible Customer Service seem ordinary?

Perhaps when it’s like a Montezuma Quail.

Few people see this bird because it’s rare.

Yet, when it appears, it walks out as if it had always been there.

While staying at the Casa de San Pedro Bed & Breakfast, someone spotted a Montezuma Quail in the front yard. I hurried to the window and caught a glimpse. Then the bird flew away.

I told the owners that I wanted to take a photo of a Montezuma Quail.

Two days later Patrick (one of the owners) knocked on my door. “It’s here.”

I grabbed my camera and followed.

I was using a Canon 7D Mark II with a 600 mm f/4 lens on a large tripod with a gimbal head. This system is big, awkward, and heavy.

We stopped at the front door.

“Open it slowly,” I said.

Patrick eased the door open and then dropped into a crouch, thereby holding the door open with his hip.

Now I could set the tripod and take photos over Patrick.

And so here we are with a very special photo.

In business we call this incredible customer service.

In life it’s knowing what to do. Spontaneously. Seamlessly. Gracefully.

Much success,

Steve Kaye

Casa de San Pedro is more than an outstanding B&B with gourmet breakfasts. It’s a wonderful place where you can experience the serene beauty of Nature. See more here.

Did You Know?

The most effective way to help birds is to buy land.

Here are three organizations that excel at doing this.

1) American Bird Conservancy

2) The Nature Conservancy

3) The Trust for Public Land

Please visit their web sites to learn about the work they do.

Here’s an excellent book: The American Bird Conservancy Guide to Bird Conservation

Steve, knowing the story behind this shot gives me almost as much pleasure as the image itself. It looks for all the world like you sat in a blind for days to capture this delightful creature. I suppose in a way you did! Pairing it with your B&B owner’s apparent excitement, and making the connection with exemplary customer service and mindfulness: Tender. Like a meditation. Thank you.

Great photo!!! We have lots of quail in Bidwell Park here in Chico. They are similar, this one however is far more beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
