Good Bird

California Towhee, (c) Photo by Steve Kaye, in post: Good Bird

California Towhee

This is a good bird.

Why?

Because my camera likes it. Or maybe because the bird likes my camera.

In either case, the California Towhee consistently takes sharp photos. Notice the detail in this close-cropped photo.

So I wonder if Canon used a California Towhee as a test image when designing their focusing system.

If you’re out on the West Coast, look for a large brown sparrow-type bird that’s about 9-in. (23-cm) long. They often travel in pairs, making a short, sharp “teek” call to each other.

Then call out, “Good bird!”

Much success,

Steve Kaye

The most effective way to help birds is to buy land.

Here are three organizations that excel at doing this.

1) American Bird Conservancy

2) The Nature Conservancy

3) The Trust for Public Land

Please visit their web sites to learn about the work they do.

Here’s an excellent book: The American Bird Conservancy Guide to Bird Conservation

Amazing clarity, Steve. Thrilling to see the tiny feathers and the texture around the eye.
