Life can be like Thanksgiving.

Bewick’s Wren, a shy bird. You can feel grateful if you see one.

Here are three ways to celebrate Thanksgiving every day by being grateful.

✅ Be Objective

How: Recognize the basic, ordinary good things in your life.

For example, right now you are alive, breathing, and conscious.

We know that’s true because you have read this far. And that alone is a reason to be grateful.

And then, most likely you live indoors, you have food, and you have friends (even if that friend is a cat).

Next, recall the many good events in your life, the many achievements, the many victories, the many successes, and the many times when you were lucky.

You could also include the lessons you gained from the bumps and turns that are part of every life.

Combined, these serve as a foundation for being grateful every day.

Try This: Write a list of everything in your life that merits gratitude. Then review that list when you need a lift.

✅ Be Active

How: Live in ways that produce gratitude.

That is, make good choices so you can be grateful for the good results you obtained.

These choices become a lifestyle that feeds you a daily flow of gratitude.

Try This: Write a list of good choices you can make. This might become your annual set of resolutions for better living.

✅ Be Creative

How: Help others achieve good results (so you can be grateful for the ways they helped you).

This often involves acting with compassion, generosity, or kindness.

For example, if you give your complete attention during a conversation, you can feel grateful for having helped someone communicate well.

For example, if you create a positive environment for someone working on a project, you can feel grateful for the exceptional results they produced.

Or for example, if you are kind to the support person you called for help, you can feel grateful for the excellent service you received.

Notice how showing kindness helps others perform better.

Try This: Write a list of ways you can create success for others.

Notice that being grateful can become a way of life. A personal strategy. A daily guide.

And when applied consistently, you will build a legacy that leaves everyone feeling grateful that they knew you.

I hope you’re celebrating Thanksgiving every day, in every way possible.

Much success,

Steve Kaye

Did You Know?

The most effective way to help birds is to buy land.

Here are three organizations that excel at doing this.

1) American Bird Conservancy

2) The Nature Conservancy

3) The Trust for Public Land

Please visit their web sites to learn about the work they do.

Here’s an excellent book: The American Bird Conservancy Guide to Bird Conservation
