Halloween Can Happen Every Day.

Common Yellowthroat, Male, Wearing His Super Bird Costume

Just like Halloween, life can be spooky.

So what can you do?

Answer: In the spirit of Halloween, put on your Super Person Costume.

Now you can:

✅ Use your X-Ray Vision to see through fantasy.

Often we scare ourselves by imagining spooky possibilities. While some worry can help develop contingency plans, too much worry can cause stress. And creative worry, where we invent absurd nightmares, can drive us nuts.

Instead, find the reality in difficult situations. Then build upon this to find positive, practical actions.

Sometimes we can diminish worry by affirming: “I feel afraid. And right now, I am okay.”

We can also recognize that Life always moves toward Health. And since bad situations are inherently unsustainable, they eventually collapse.

On a personal note, I discard scary possibilities by telling myself, “Not going to happen.” Or, I’ll sing, “Hey you! Get off of my head!” [Credit The Rolling Stones for their song]. This is so silly that it makes my worries fall apart.

✅ Use your super strength to be a force for good.

This super strength resides in the simple choices you make every day, such as what you buy, where you shop, where you go, what you do, who you help, and what you say.

These choices are powerful because they determine the world you live in.

So even if there is chaos outside, you can still create comfort (and safety) in your personal life.

Then do something. ( Super People always respond by taking action. )

Begin by taking care of yourself. Go for slow walks outside. Wave hello at strangers. Stay in touch with friends. Play with your hobbies.

Then find ways to be helpful. Join organizations that work to make the world better. Take small, simple, practical actions that lead to solutions.

This matters because you will feel better when you are active, helping others and doing something positive.

Of course, be realistic. Do what you can with what you have. And then praise yourself for being part of the solution.

✅ Avoid Freak-o-nite.

As you may know, Freak-o-nite is toxic for people with super powers. Actually, it’s toxic for everybody.

So, for example, you may avoid social media, because most of it has become a haunted house filled with spooky robots and scary ads.

And you might spend less time watching scary news.

Instead, find sources of good news about good people doing good things. [ I like the magazine: Positive News. ]

From this, you will discover that you are part of a vast effort to protect nature, promote truth, and provide solutions.

Much success,

Steve Kaye

PS> I give books as Halloween treats. The kids and parents are delighted.

Did You Know?

The most effective way to help birds is to buy land.

Here are three organizations that excel at doing this.

1) American Bird Conservancy

2) The Nature Conservancy

3) The Trust for Public Land

Please visit their web sites to learn about the work they do.

Here’s an excellent book: The American Bird Conservancy Guide to Bird Conservation

Thank you Steve for your usual wise comments and lovely photo. You are the second person who has mentioned Positive News! And this from across the pond. I shall make a point of getting it.
