Conversation with a bird about Halloween costumes

“Hello good bird, what do you plan to wear for Halloween,” I asked.

“Feathers,” the bird replied.

“You wear feathers every day.”

“That’s because I’m a bird every day.”

“Would you want to wear a costume?”

“Like what?”

I paused, searching for a practical answer.

“What are you going to wear on Halloween?” the bird asked.

“I’m going to dress up as an old man.”

“You look an old man every day.”

“Actually, I’m a 4-year old. I just look like an old man.”

“So why would you want to look like an old man?”

“It’s what I see when I wake up.”

“Then why would you want to be a 4-year old?”

“When I’m a 4-year old, everything I do is play. Each moment is filled with discovery. And I greet every day with optimism.”

“Hey! That’s how birds live. Maybe you should wear feathers.”
